International Conference „HANS ARP AND THE US“

American Academy Berlin, June 22 – 23, 2015

On June 22nd and 23rd 2015 the conference “Hans Arp and the US” took place. The conference was hosted by the Stiftung Arp e.V. in cooperation with the American Academy and the Georg Kolbe Museum, Berlin. The international conference was dealing with the widespread recognition the work of Hans Arp achieved after the Second World War. Above all, his works found resonance in museums and galleries in the United States and among American collectors. Nevertheless, art historians have not yet fully analyzed Arp’s influence on post-war American art or the significance of his relationships with collectors, patrons and artists. Furthermore, although his presence in American exhibitions, galleries and the art market profoundly shaped his reception, the artist’s strong presence in the American art world has received little attention. The conference advances new scholarly approaches to the work of Hans Arp and promotes exchange between academics, curators and art market experts.
